About the Course

This course is a graduate-level seminar intended to teach students about state-of-the-art probabilistic models of human cognition.

Prerequisites

BCS 512/CSC 512 (or permission of the instructor)

Requirements

  • Class attendance and participation are mandatory.
  • Class presentations of readings: For each reading, 1-2 students will be asked to present the reading to the class. Presenters should use PowerPoint slides during their presentations. In addition, presenters should prepare summaries with the important points of their assigned reading. These summaries should be distributed to all members of the class at least 24 hours before the class meeting in which the reading will be discussed.
  • On days in which there is only 1 assigned reading, everyone should read the reading in great detail. In addition, all students (including the presenters) must write 4-5 questions (or comments or discussion points) about the reading. These questions should be turned in to the instructor at the start of the class meeting in which the reading will be discussed. On days in which there are 2 assigned readings, half the students will be asked to read each reading in great detail, whereas the remaining students can familiarize themselves with the reading in a less rigorous fashion. Students should turn in questions on the assigned reading that they read in great detail.

Grading

All students must take this course on a Pass/Fail basis. Let the instructor know at the start of the semester if this poses a problem.
