BCS 532: SyllabusFall 2012Course InstructorRobert Jacobs About the CourseThis course is a graduate-level seminar intended to teach students about state-of-the-art probabilistic theories of human cognitive processing. PrerequisitesBCS 512/CSC 512 (or permission of the instructor) Requirements
For each reading, 1-2 students will be asked to present the reading to the class. Presenters should use PowerPoint slides during their presentations. In addition, presenters should prepare summaries with the important points of their assigned reading. These summaries should be distributed to all members of the class at least 24 hours before the class meeting in which the reading will be discussed. On days in which there is only 1 assigned reading, everyone should read the reading in great detail. All students (including the presenters) must write 4-5 questions (or comments or discussion points) about the reading. These questions should be turned in to the instructor at the start of the class meeting in which the reading will be discussed. On days in which there are multiple assigned readings, the students will be partitioned into multiple subsets, one for each reading. A student will read in great detail the reading assigned to his or her subset. The student can read the other readings in a less rigorous fashion. Students should turn in questions on the assigned reading that they read in great detail. GradingAll students must take this course on a Pass/Fail basis. Let the instructor know at the start of the semester if this poses a problem. |
