The Rochester Baby Lab was established in 1984 by Professor Richard Aslin, a faculty member in the department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. Professor Aslin received his Ph.D. in 1975 from the University of Minnesota's Institute of Child Development. His research spans a variety of topics in infant development, including sensation (vision and hearing), motor systems (eye movements and reaching), perception of objects and speech sounds, cognition (learning and memory), and language. Infants ranging in age from 4 to 18 months are studied, with grant support from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Packard and McDonnell Foundations.
