INTERESTS:
Cortical plasticity in the visual system, especially as it relates
to deafness and video game experience; visuo-spatial attention; literacy
acquisition in deaf children and adults; sign language processing.
FUTURE GOALS:
Improve my ASL fluency; extend my studies with deaf native signing
children to include children with varying age of onset and degree
of hearing loss; design fMRI studies to complement the recent behavioral
data collected from deaf children and adults.

Work: I am interested in how early language experience affects brain plasticity and reading ability in the deaf . I am also interested in how deafness may lead to differences in short term memory mechanisms.
Non-Work: Learning languages and keeping up with the ones I know, fiddle,
bbq, Philadelphia Eagles, traveling and visiting friends in interesting
places.
FUTURE GOALS:
I hope that my research will lead to improved techniques for
attaining high levels of literacy in the deaf.

Work - The difference between video game players and non-gamers in their visual capabilities, behavioral differences from biological changes (specifically neurotoxicity), and brain trauma rehabilitation.
Non-work - Cooking, making balloon animals, languages and raising tropical fish.
FUTURE GOALS:
Gain as much research experience as possible and go to graduate school. In the long run, I would like to hold a professorship and continue neural plasticity research. |

Aparna now works as Software Design Engineer at Neurognostics,
Inc., located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is involved in studying
various CNS disorders using fMRI techniques.

the director of the Neurocognitive Imaging Laboratory at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Julie is a Ph.D. candidate in the Cognitive
Developmental Neuroimaging Lab at the Institute of Child Development
at the University of Minnesota.
Dave
McColgin
Dave earned his B.A.
in BCS in 2003. He went on to study Human-Computer Interaction at
Georgia Tech and now researches and designs tools for information
visualization at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
He went from 96 days of sunshine to 300 and still gets better skiing.

Medical School's Shriver Center in Waltham, Massachusetts where
