Research Overview
I have multiple research goals that lie at the intersection points between the fields of psycholinguistics
and dialogue system research. My psycholinguistic research tends to be directed toward issues that are particularly
challenging for dialogue systems, and my dialogue system research tends to focus on approaches that may lead to
better understanding of human language processes. I am currently involved in the following active projects:
- Dialogue systems as a tool for psycholinguistic research. With James Allen and Mike Tanenhaus
- Multimodal Integration of Iconic Gesture and Speech Information: Applications to Autism Research. With
Laura Silverman, Loisa Benetto, and Mike Tanenhaus.
- Comprehension of instrument verbs in context. With Rachel Sussman, Mike Tanenhaus, and Greg Carlson.
- Developing a method for evaluating the success of dialog systems, using eye-tracking data as a dependant
measure. With Mary Swift, Mike Tanenhaus, and James Allen.
- Using eye movements to improve dialogue system performance. With Leland S. Stone, Roger W. Remington, John
Dowding, Beth Ann Hockey, Jim Heironymus, Greg Aist, and Jason Baldridge.
- Circumscription of referential domains during collaborative problem-solving. With Sarah Brown-Schmidt and
Mike Tanenhaus.
