Domain Generality
If natural language is constrained by language acquisition mechanisms, it's reasonable to ask if these constraints are tailored solely for the purpose of language, or whether they might also impact learning in other nonlinguistic domains. To this end, I'm conducting nonlinguistic analogues of language-based statistical learning studies using a visuomotor sequential learning task on a touchscreen. The beauty of this methodology is that it provides a fine-grained, online measure of learning -- something we lack in our typical artificial grammar learning paradigm.
