A study currently conducted by the University of Rochester and Monroe Commumity Hospital involves recording brain activity during a simple computer task. There are no experimental drugs given or blood drawn. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of EEG (electroencephalogram) recordings as a diagnostic criterion for Alzheimer's disease. If these recordings prove plausible as a diagnostic tool, people may be able to receive treatment prior to developing the disease or in its early stages. 400 subjects are needed, including patients diagnosed with mild Alzheimer's disease or Mild Cognitive Impairment. Family members can also help. All studies need control subjects, which allow researchers to evaluate the differences between normal aging and Alzheimer's disease.
